Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a phased array antenna and the FreeStar5G™ distributed antenna system?

The FreeStar5G™ offers a fixed beam design that can be switched in nanoseconds without moving parts.
The FreeStar5G™ consumes less power than traditional planar array solutions. It features a relatively compact form-factor with dimensions of 16”x 14” x 13”.

What makes the FreeStar5G™ unique?

FreeStar5G™ is a 5G mmWave distributed antenna system (DAS) that offers 360 degrees of 3D MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) coverage, able to connect up to 4 radios to 64 individual antenna elements. The system covers all current 5G mmWave frequencies from 24 GHz to 39 GHz.

How does the FreeStar5g™ manage power consumption?

The FreeStar5G™ minimizes power consumption with each individual antenna element being able to be switched on and off in nanoseconds.

What is the range of the FreeStar5g™?

FreeStar5G™ has a range of more than 10,000 ft at 64 QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation).

What is the Data Rate of the FreeStar5G™?

The FreeStar5G™ product enables fiber-over-the-air applications achieving higher than 10 Gbps per antenna element. It can support extremely dense use cases, like airports, stadia, crowded city centers, large public centers, and more.

How much coverage does the FreeStar5G™ antenna provide?

The FreeStar5G™ antenna supports multicast/broadcast operation.
Each beam is enabled with multi-beam operation, providing MIMO multiplexing and diversity gains through LOS and NLOS (reflective) paths.
The FreeStar5G™ product provides instantaneous 22-degree coverage at any antenna element or an instantaneous 360-degree beamwidth. Each individual antenna can be switched on independently and simultaneously to provide specific coverage areas, or the entire array can be used providing 360-degree coverage.
